A better system

03/06/2009 | Channel: Manufacturing

Ervin Amasteel, one of the largest international manufacturers of steel abrasives, has recently specified Sill Lighting to provide high quality, robust luminaires to its UK plant in Tipton.

Aggressive conditions in the plant meant a lighting system was needed to endure temperatures of up to 50°C as well as withstand the damp and dusty environment and vibrations caused by machinery.

Imola luminaires from Pracht, supported in the UK by Sill Lighting, were specified for their easy maintenance and IP65 protection rating, making them dust-proof and jet-proof. The Pracht system has two small 45mm o-rings making them much better sealed against the rigours of heavy industry. The Ervin Amasteel lighting system used the Imola 490 fluorescent luminaire with Prachtopal PMMA impact-resistant adjustable frosted diffuser with 58w T8 lamp.

Martyn Shakespeare from Ervin Amasteel explained: “The standard fittings that were being used previously in the plant would begin to lose light quality after two weeks and within a few months they were useless and had to be replaced. We have had the Sill and Pracht luminaires for 18 months now with no replacements required.”
Ervin Amasteel now intends to update additional sections of the plant and are currently planning to install a further 17 Sill luminaires in the meltshop area of the plant.
