The largest plough producer in the European Union, Vogel & Noot has spent 140 years cementing its legacy across the continent
Founded in Wartberg, Austria, in 1872, Vogel & Noot Landmaschinen will this year celebrate its 140th anniversary. In this time the company has been responsible for providing its customers with a client-oriented product range encompassing ploughs, cultivators, subsoilers, seed drills and other innovative and detailed solutions.
“Today, the company has subsidiaries in eight European countries, with its products sold to each of the world’s major continents,” states chief finance officer, Robert Eichinger. “With more than 580 individuals currently employed by the company, Vogel & Noot is without question the biggest manufacturer of ploughs in the European Union. Over the last decade the business has developed steadily with the broadening of its product range, for example the addition of sprayers and drill machines to its portfolio, contributing to a significant rise in annual turnover.”
Traditionally the company’s main market spans central and Western Europe, however recent years have also seen it bear witness to a significant rise in sales attributed to Eastern European countries such as Russia: “Typical buyers comprise of agricultural machinery dealers,” Robert says. “Rarely does the company sell implements directly to farmers, however it is always present to provide customer service while also supplying spare parts. These examples of Vogel & Noot’s daily operations really help to highlight how its focus is always on the end user.
“These end users are, more often than not, medium sized, future-oriented farmers that use powerful, modern techniques to provide a basis for building their economic success. Nevertheless, one has to remember that in this industry, a farm located in Russia may be up to 1000 times bigger than a similar farm based in Austria. Therefore the company has had to become capable of providing high quality machinery in a number of different sizes.”
Over its long and illustrious history, Vogel & Noot has built up an image as a well-known specialist in the field of soil working and is known throughout the industry for its powerful and innovative products. Additionally the company has built up an impressive track record of delivering value for money to its customers that call upon and greatly appreciate its service.
“In the last 12 months Vogel & Noot has launched several new products, for example the TerraDiscPro compact disc harrow and the MasterDrillPro pneumatic seed drill,” Robert continues. “Further to these product launches the company has created a complete family of subsoilers within its TerraDig range that have already been accepted positively by the market. Besides the new products it launches, Vogel & Noot continues to successfully develop its dealer network in its existing locations, while also entering several new regional markets. The enlargement of its production facilities has been one of the main reasons why the company has been able to manage such growth so effectively.”
While growth within its field of industry has been achieved by the company in recent years, this has not come as much from its traditional locations, rather it has been as a result of its ability to expand geographically: “What the company is noticing today is that farmers are increasingly executing conservation soil cultivation,” Robert explains. “In 1999 it was suggested that only nine per cent of arable land was being worked without the use of ploughs. Come 2015 this figure is expected to have risen to approximately 35 per cent. In response to such changes, Vogel & Noot has adapted its product range, offering products like the TerraCult and TerraTop cultivators, to meet these trends.
“With the demand for agricultural products expected to continue its steady rise, there is a good sense of optimism with regards to the general economic climate. Increasing wealth levels in emerging and developing nations, as well as a growing human population will no doubt continue to spur the demand for the types of agricultural machinery Vogel & Noot specialise in.”
It is with this in mind that the company is actively preparing itself to handle further future growth, likely through the expansion of its production capacity: “In addition to what is going on in today’s market, there is now a greater level of customer demand when it comes to shortening delivery times,” Robert highlights. “This is just one example of why efforts to speed up processes along the entire value chain are so necessary.
“The incredible development of the company, and one of the primary reasons why it has been able to adapt to the world around it so seamlessly, comes down to the people that give their all to Vogel & Noot each and every day. The company would simply not be able to develop its product line and ensure its superior quality without employees who believe in both Vogel & Noot’s power and future. These individuals, along with a strong relationship with all its suppliers, have helped the company cope with the vast changes the market has undergone in the last 140 years.”
